The chill continued across the Kashmir Valley on Monday, with night temperatures showing minor fluctuations, according to local meteorological officials. While some areas recorded a slight dip compared to the previous night, the Jammu region remained largely stable.
In the Valley, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 1.9°C, slightly lower than 2.0°C a day earlier. Qazigund experienced a sharp drop to 2.2°C from 0.8°C, while Pahalgam stayed nearly steady at 2.2°C compared to 2.4°C the previous night. Kupwara saw a modest rise to 1.6°C from 1.2°C, whereas Kokernag experienced a significant jump to 2.4°C from 0.8°C. Popular ski resort Gulmarg recorded a slight fall to 1.0°C from 1.4°C.
Pulwama remained the coldest in the Valley, hitting minus 2.7°C yesterday, though data for today is yet to be released. Awantipora registered minus 0.8°C, down from minus 0.2°C, and Shopian dipped slightly to minus 0.1°C from 0.1°C.
In Jammu, temperatures were largely steady. Jammu city recorded 11.4°C, unchanged from the previous day. Banihal dropped to 3.1°C from 5.5°C, Batote rose marginally to 8.3°C from 7.9°C, while Katra remained around 11°C.
In Ladakh, Leh experienced a warmer night at minus 1.8°C, compared to minus 5.0°C previously, and Kargil improved to minus 1.2°C from minus 4.6°C.
Meteorological officials said night temperatures across the region are expected to fluctuate slightly over the next few days, with no major weather systems predicted. Residents have been advised to take precautions against the cold, especially in the higher reaches where sub-zero conditions persist.
The region continues to brace for winter, with locals relying on heaters, woolens, and other measures to combat the chill during the long nights.
