Kulgam Police Solve Theft Case Within 15 Hours, Recover Stolen Property Worth ₹4 Lakh; 7 Arrested, 3 Absconding

Kund (Kulgam), March 6: Kulgam Police on Thursday successfully solved a theft case within 15 hours, recovering stolen property worth ₹4 lakh in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

A police spokesperson said that Police Station Kund received a complaint from Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat, son of Ab Rashid Bhat, a resident of Churat Qazigund. Bhat had purchased several poplar trees from the Waltengoo area in Kund for business purposes. After cutting them into logs and stacking them by the roadside at Waltengoo, the logs were stolen during the intervening night of March 4 and 5.

Following the complaint, an FIR (No. 05/2025) under sections 303(2), 3(5), 49, and 191(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Kund. The investigation was promptly launched under the leadership of the Station House Officer (SHO) Kund, following directions from SSP Kulgam and under the close supervision of Additional SP NHW and SDPO Qazigund.

"After strenuous efforts and evidence analysis, the police team managed to recover all the stolen poplar timber logs, worth approximately ₹4 lakh, within 15 hours. The stolen property was found at a bandsaw mill in Oukh, Pulwama," the police spokesperson said.

Seven accused individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. They have been identified as:

1. Manzoor Ahmad Deeder 2. Muneer Deeder 3. Mohd Haneef Deeder – all sons of Rajwali Deeder, residents of Nigeenpora Nard 4. Basharat Tandha, son of Mohd Shafi Tandha 5. Rakesh Kumar, resident of Shimla, Himachal Pradesh – Dealer of Popular Timbers, Pulwama 6. Mushtaq Ahmad Laway, son of Ab Gani 7. Mudasir Maqbool Laway, son of Mohd Maqbool – residents of Kakapora Oukh, Pulwama

A load carrier (2007 model) without a number plate and registration was also seized.

Meanwhile, three other accused individuals are absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend them. They have been identified as:1. Mohd Shafi Tendha, son of Mohd Yaqoob Tendha 2. Mohd Shafi Tendha, son of Laaldin Tendha 3. Mohd Haneef Awaan, son of Rajwali – all residents of Waltengoo

The swift action by Kulgam Police in solving the case within 15 hours has been widely appreciated by the general public.
