A man was found dead under mysterious circumstances near a mosque in the Ratherpora area of Delina in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday morning, triggering concern among local residents and prompting a police investigation.
According to officials, the body was spotted near Masjid Ratherpora Delina during the early hours of the day. Soon after receiving information, police personnel rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area to prevent public gathering and to preserve evidence. The deceased has been identified as a resident of Ratherpora Delina, though authorities have not immediately disclosed further personal details.
Police officials said the body was taken into custody and shifted for medico-legal formalities, including a post-mortem examination, which is expected to help ascertain the exact cause of death. Initial observations have not conclusively pointed to whether the death was accidental, natural, or the result of foul play.
“The circumstances surrounding the death are unclear at this stage. A case has been registered, and a thorough investigation has been initiated to determine the cause,” an official said. Statements from locals and possible eyewitnesses are being recorded as part of the probe.
The incident has created an atmosphere of unease in the area, with residents seeking clarity over how the man died so close to a place of worship. Community members have urged the authorities to conduct a transparent and swift investigation.
Police have appealed to the public to cooperate with the investigation and avoid spreading rumours until official findings are made public. Further details are expected once the post-mortem report and forensic analysis are completed.
Authorities reiterated that all possible angles are being examined, and appropriate legal action will be taken once the investigation reaches a conclusion.
