One Militant killed in Handwara encounter, arms recovered

Srinagar: One militant was killed in an encounter with the security forces on Monday in Zachaldar village of Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir.

The security forces also recovered many weapons, including AK-47. 

The operation took place early Monday morning when a combined party of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army initiated a search operation. 

Soon after the militants who were hiding in suspected location, fired gunshots at the forces leading to a clash.

One militant was killed in the encounter. The security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle and other weapons from the militant. 

The encounter is still ongoing with security personnel still combing the area for other militants. 

The civilians have been instructed not to step out of the house citing safety concerns.
