Police personnel injured in encounter with militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua.

One police personnel was injured in a firefight between security personnel and militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Thursday (March 27) morning. The administration said this massive anti-militancy operation has been ongoing for four days.

What happened

On Thursday morning, the security forces identified the location of militants in Ghati Juthana village of Rajbagh sector of ​​Kathua. The village is approximately 30 km from the encounter site in Hiranagar sector.

The officials of the administration informed that "They believe the militants who escaped in the exchange of firing and counter firing on Sunday evening at Hiranagar were of the same militant group." The police raided a 'dhok' (grass/grass nursery in the local language) at Sanyal village on the basis of inputs. While the militants escaped, there was an exchange of fire for more than thirty minutes.

How is the operation going?

The massive search operation involves police, army, National Security Guard (NSG), Border Security Force (BSF) and CRPF. Spying machinery and advanced technology like helicopters, drones, bullet-proof vehicles and sniffing dogs are being employed for searching the militants. The militants are believed to have come into India on Saturday through a newly-cut tunnel or mountain pass from the Pakistan border.

The militants are carrying out forces with particular focus on the Billawar forest area. The administration informed that the militants have already been traced.

Role of Authority

Jammu and Kashmir Police Director General Nalin Prabhat is present on the spot and is monitoring the entire operation. He is accompanied by Jammu range IG Bhim Sen Tuti. Both of them have been carrying out this anti-militancy operation together for the last four days.

The security forces have said that the operation of arresting the militants will continue until they are completely brought into custody.
