Public Park in Main Town Kulgam Lacks Basic Facilities, Visitors Raise Concerns

Kulgam, April 10 – The Public Park located in the heart of Main Town Kulgam has come under sharp criticism from both locals and visitors for lacking even the most basic amenities.

People visiting the park have expressed concern over the absence of essential facilities such as washrooms, portable drinking water, electricity, and a proper footpath. Despite being one of the few recreational spaces in the area, the park remains neglected, causing inconvenience to families, children, and elderly citizens who frequent the space for leisure and morning walks.

“There is no drinking water facility or even a functional restroom here. It becomes very difficult, especially for women and senior citizens,” said one of the regular park-goers.

Locals also pointed out the poor condition of the park’s pathways, which are uneven and can become hazardous, particularly during the rainy season. The lack of lighting has further raised safety concerns among evening visitors.

Residents have appealed to the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to upgrade the infrastructure and ensure that the park meets the basic standards of public convenience.

“It’s high time the district administration looks into this. A park is supposed to be a place of comfort, not struggle,” said another local resident.

When contacted, the District Floriculture Officer Kulgam acknowledged the issue and said, “We have already taken up the matter with the higher authorities and have also approached the Executive Engineer, R&B Division, for a cost estimate. We are hopeful the grievances of the public will be addressed soon, so that they do not continue to face inconvenience.”

Locals now wait to see swift action on the ground, hoping that the promises made will soon translate into much-needed improvements.
