Baramulla, October 20: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, on Monday conducted a surprise inspection of Primary Health Centre (PHC) Sheeri and PHC Boniyar in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district to take stock of healthcare facilities and assess the functioning of these key health institutions.
During the visit, the Minister reviewed the availability of essential medicines, diagnostic facilities, manpower position, and overall patient care services being provided at both centres. She interacted with patients and attendants to obtain first-hand feedback on the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery.
While interacting with doctors and paramedical staff, Minister Sakeena Itoo emphasized the need for a people-centric approach in public service delivery, urging health workers to serve with dedication and compassion.
Expressing concern over certain shortcomings observed during the inspection, she directed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Baramulla to take immediate corrective measures to ensure round-the-clock availability of essential services. The Minister also instructed staff to maintain strict duty rosters, proper record-keeping, and ensure cleanliness within hospital premises.
“The government is committed to strengthening the public health system, particularly at the primary level, so that quality healthcare services reach every citizen, especially those living in remote and far-flung areas,” the Minister said.
She reiterated that transparency, accountability, and dedication must remain the guiding principles of health service delivery.
The Minister was accompanied by MLA Uri Dr. Sajjad Shafi, MLA Baramulla Javid Hassan Beigh, CMO Baramulla, and other senior officers of the district administration during the visit.
