Celebrity fitness coach Siddhartha Singh, known for training actor Tamannaah Bhatia, has sparked debate online after labelling French fries as the “single worst food” for anyone serious about losing weight.
In a recent Instagram video, Siddhartha described fries as an “oil sponge,” explaining that potatoes absorb large amounts of unhealthy fats during deep frying. According to him, this dramatically increases their calorie content while offering minimal nutritional value. A seemingly small portion, he said, can quietly derail a calorie deficit a key requirement for fat loss.
Beyond calories, Siddhartha highlighted what he called the “hyper-palatable” nature of fries. These foods combine fat, salt and refined carbohydrates in a way that overstimulates taste buds and overrides natural fullness signals. “If you have one, you will have to eat 50,” he remarked, warning that such foods can trigger overeating with ease.
He also pointed to the metabolic impact. The high-carb, high-fat combination can cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels, followed by a crash. This cycle may leave a person feeling hungry again soon after eating, encouraging more snacking and creating what he described as a “blood sugar roller coaster.”
While many nutrition experts advocate moderation such as the popular 80/20 approach to clean eating Siddhartha took a stricter stance. He advised people struggling with weight loss or metabolic issues to “eradicate fries” from their diet entirely.
However, health professionals often emphasise that sustainable weight loss depends on overall dietary patterns, portion control and physical activity rather than eliminating a single food group. As with most viral fitness advice, individuals are encouraged to consult qualified healthcare professionals before making drastic dietary changes.
