The third edition of the “Veshow Literature Festival” was inaugurated in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressing the gathering virtually. In his inaugural speech, the LG highlighted the transformative power of literature, describing it as a true reflection of society one that can challenge false and divisive narratives and uphold truth and harmony.
Sinha urged writers, poets, and thinkers to use their creative voices to confront misinformation and divisive ideologies. He emphasized that literature is not merely a source of entertainment but a powerful instrument for social change and collective awakening. “The pen has the power to shape minds and influence generations,” he remarked, underscoring the moral responsibility of authors to preserve the essence of truth through their words.
Placing special emphasis on regional languages, Sinha called for greater efforts to preserve and promote the rich linguistic diversity of Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that languages like Kashmiri, Urdu, Dogri, Gojri, Punjabi, and Pahari are deeply interwoven with the cultural and historical identity of the region, and their preservation is essential to maintain its pluralistic heritage.
The festival witnessed the participation of prominent officials from the district administration, educators, students, and numerous literature enthusiasts. Over the course of three days, the event hosted a series of activities including book releases, poetry recitations, discussion forums, an All-India Mushaira, and various cultural exhibitions celebrating rural art and life.
A special segment of the festival honored young and first-time authors, celebrating their debut works in fiction and poetry. Organizers expressed that the Veshow Lit Festival has evolved into more than just a literary event it has become a platform where new voices can emerge, ideas can flourish, and dialogue can thrive.
