Kulgam, March 22: World Water Day was celebrated in Kulgam with the theme "Glacier Preservation," marking the global effort to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation and the vital role glaciers play in sustaining freshwater resources.

The main function took place in the Conference Hall of the Mini-Secretariat, Kulgam, and was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan (IAS). The event aimed to educate the public about the urgent need for preserving glaciers, which are critical to the region's water supply, especially in the face of climate change.

In a powerful opening address, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the significance of glaciers in sustaining the region's water resources and the impact of global warming on these vital ice masses. Following the speech, participants were administered a pledge by the Deputy Commissioner, committing to conserve water, use it judiciously, and inspire others to do the same. The pledge underscored the collective responsibility of every individual and community in ensuring a sustainable water future for all.

The event featured a series of awareness sessions and discussions on the pressing issue of climate change and its effects on glaciers. Experts from various fields highlighted the need for responsible water use, the importance of glacier preservation, and how individuals can contribute to conservation efforts.

Among those in attendance were ACD Syed Naseer Ahmad, ACP Nazia Hassan, ACR Mushtaq Ahmad, Executive Engineers from Jal Shakti, CEO, and other officials. The event concluded with a call to action, urging citizens to value and protect water resources, ensuring that future generations will continue to benefit from this precious natural resource.
