SSCL officials said on Wednesday that the national tendering process for the new fleet has been initiated. Within three months, there will be another 100 buses, and after that, the total number of e-buses in Srinagar will reach 200,” an official said.
These buses will be plying within the city to improve public transport. Currently, 100 e-buses are running on 16 routes and providing a reliable travel option to the passengers. With the addition of another 100 buses, the city will have a smoother and more efficient commuting experience.
The official said that since the introduction of e-buses, passengers have got huge relief. “In the first year of their operation, these buses generated a revenue of ₹11 crore, and around 61 lakh people have availed the service,” the official added.
SSCL officials are hopeful that the new buses will be operational soon and will benefit the people of Srinagar.
Javed Ahmed, a shopkeeper at Lal Chowk, said that e-buses have brought huge relief especially for the business owners. “Earlier, due to a lack of transport, we had to shut our shops early or purchase our own vehicles. Now, we know exactly when the buses will arrive, allowing us to continue our business until late at night,” he said.
Other passengers echoed the same sentiment appreciating the facilities on e-buses like online monitoring, air conditioning and onboard security cameras. They feel these features enhance safety and provide a comfortable travel experience.
Bisma Bilal, a student of Kashmir University, said that female passengers feel safer due to security cameras and reserved seats for women. “Earlier, traditional transport had no security measures. Now, these buses offer a safer environment for female commuters,” she said.
Passengers feel that expansion of e-bus fleet will be a game changer for Srinagar’s transport system. With high hopes they are waiting for the new buses to arrive and expect even better travel experience in coming months.
