Local Heroes Lead Charge Against Drug Abuse
News: Srinagar, April 13
An Anti-Drug Football Tournament was successfully conducted at Cherry Park, Nawab Bagh, Baghwan Pora, Lal Bazar, Srinagar, in collaboration with the Peace and Friendship Foundation Srinagar, drawing widespread appreciation from the local community, senior citizens, and social activists.
The event was organized by prominent footballers from the area – Wajid Bhat, Fayaz Bhat, Faisal Mirza, Munzir Syed, and Munshi Fazil – with the aim of encouraging youth participation in sports and raising awareness against drug abuse.
The tournament also featured a children’s camp, which saw enthusiastic participation, symbolizing hope for a brighter and drug-free future. Notable attendees included Mr. Nisar Ali Bhat Khaksaar, Chairman of the Peace and Friendship Foundation, Aga Syed Ali Moosavi and Mudassir Ali Bhat, who praised the initiative for its social impact.
Among those who strongly supported the cause was Hakim Suhail Abbas Kashmiri, who called the tournament a meaningful step toward youth empowerment. He said, "Throughout history, truth has always risen against falsehood, and our youth have been the torchbearers of that truth. This initiative is not just a sports event but a powerful statement against drug abuse, and a call for sustained efforts to protect our future generations."
He further appealed to the administration, saying, "I earnestly request MLA Zadibal Mr. Tanveer Sadiq and Hon’ble Member of Parliament Srinagar Mr. Aga Ruhullah Mehdi to take immediate steps toward developing a proper sports stadium at this location. A well-maintained sports facility will serve as a constructive space for the youth, keeping them engaged in positive activities and away from the dangers of drug addiction. We also urge the concerned authorities to clear any encroachments and ensure this land is preserved for the betterment of our community. The ball is truly in your court now."
This impactful event has become a beacon of hope, reminding us all that grassroots efforts, when backed by genuine leadership and infrastructure, can drive real change and protect the future of Kashmir’s youth.
