Kulgam, April 24: In a powerful show of solidarity and mourning, the Kulgam Traders Association and local tour operators held a candlelight march today to protest the recent killing of tourists in Pahalgam. The participants gathered in the town square, holding candles and placards, calling for justice and an immediate end to violence against visitors in the valley.

The somber march was not only a condemnation of the heinous attack but also a heartfelt expression of grief over the loss of innocent lives. Participants emphasized the importance of tourism for the region’s economy and harmony, urging all communities to stand together against such acts.

In a joint appeal to the Lieutenant Governor’s administration and the Jammu and Kashmir government, the association also raised serious concerns about reports of Kashmiri students and drivers being assaulted in various parts of India following the incident. “Since early morning, we have been receiving distressing messages that students and drivers from Kashmir are being beaten outside J&K. We urge the authorities to take immediate steps to ensure their safety and well-being,” a representative from the traders’ body stated.

They appealed for strong action and clear communication from the government to safeguard Kashmiris living outside the Union Territory and to prevent further escalation of communal tensions.

The protest ended peacefully, with a moment of silence observed for the deceased, and a renewed call for unity and peace across all communities.
