9 dead, 7 lakh people affected by Assam floods

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority further informed that at present 1413 villages are underwater and the Nagaon district remains the most affected. In Cachar, nearly 1.2 lakh people and in Hojai more than 1.07 lakh people were affected

At least 9 people died and more than 49,400 people have been shifted to relief camps after the severe flood struck Assam.



Till now, 7,17,046 people across 29 districts have been affected due to the flood situation in the state. 9 people have died in floods and landslides so far," Assam State Disaster Management Authority informed. 



The Assam State Disaster Management Authority further informed that at present 1413 villages are underwater and the Nagaon district remains the most affected. In Cachar, nearly 1.2 lakh people and in Hojai more than 1.07 lakh people were affected.



Meanwhile, BJP MLA Sibu Misra, from Lumding, is being criticized on social media after a video of him taking a piggyback ride to a boat on the back of a flood rescue worker surfaced online.


Amid disruption in railway services due to the floods, demand for air tickets and their prices have gone sky-high.



Also, the Assam government has announced that it will provide financial assistance of ₹ 4 lakh each to the families of those who died.
