Asani Cyclone: Andhra Pradesh heavy rain in Andhra Pradesh as cyclone approaches its coast

A red alert has been declared in Andhra Pradesh after the Asani cyclone changed its direction and is now about to reach the Andhra Pradesh coast today. The state is being buffeted by heavy rain, and strong winds as the storm is approaching its coast

Moving from the central Bay of Bengal, the Asani Cyclonic storm is likely to reach Kakinada of Andhra coast on Wednesday morning, said Pradeep Kumar Jena, Special Relief Commissioner, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.



The latest update from Indian Meteorological Department says “cyclonic storm Asani over the west-central Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 6 kmph during the past six hours, and lay centered, as on 5:30 am on Wednesday, about 50 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh, 150 km southwest of Kakinada, 290 km southwest of Visakhapatnam, 530 km southwest of Gopalpur in Odisha and 640 km southwest of Odisha’s Puri Odisha.” 



Also, a red alert has been declared in West Bengal and Odisha as the states are also expected to get affected by the storm.



Meanwhile, The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed nine teams in Andhra Pradesh and kept another seven teams on standby amid the approaching Asani Cyclone.
