Bus falls into gorge in Uttrakhand, 25 pilgrims killed, 3 injured

25 pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh lost their lives on Sunday when the bus heading for Yamunotri temple in Uttrakhand district fell into a gorge. Three others were also critically injured in the accident.


Giving information about the accident, Uttarkashi District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said the accident took place near Rikhavu khadd around two kilometers from Damta on NH-94.


The deceased pilgrims belonged to the Panna district of Madhya Pradesh. The bus was carrying 28 passengers and a driver and a helper.


So far, 17 bodies of the deceased pilgrims have been recovered, and the search for rest is underway, Patwal said.


Three people have suffered injuries in the accident have been admitted to the Community Health Centre in Damta.


Soon after getting information about the accident, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami rushed to the disaster control room to speed up the search and rescue operation.
