In connection with the alleged illegal hiring of assistant teachers, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday filed a charge sheet against 12 individuals, including Subiresh Bhattachary, the former chairman of the West Bengal Central School Service Commission (WBCSSC).

A former WBCSSC assistant secretary, an ex-advisor, two former programme officers of the commission, and six other people were listed in the agency's charge sheet, according to CBI officials, which was presented to Alipore Special Judge.

Santi Prasad Sinha, Ashok Kr Saha, Kalyanmoy Gangully, Parna Bose, Samarjit Acharya, Prasanna Kumar Roy, Pradip Singh, Jnui Das, Md Azad Ali Mirza, Imam Momin, and Rohit Kumar Jha have been named as the accused in the chargesheet.

"It was found that the accused, including public servants and private persons, entered into conspiracy with one another in order to extend to unqualified candidates undue appointments to the post of an assistant teacher for Classes IX and X in secondary and higher secondary schools in West Bengal in 2016, after the expiry of that year's panel," a statement from the CBI.

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education's former chairman, ex-advisor Santi Prasad Sinha, former assistant secretary Ashok Kr Saha, former president of an ad hoc committee Kalyanmoy Gangully, and two private individuals are among the four public employees named in the charge sheet who are currently being held in judicial custody, it continued.

"Further investigation is underway to find out if there was a larger conspiracy involved and also the role played by each of the accused," the CBI official said.

Partha Chatterjee, former state minister, was one of 16 accused that the central agency had previously filed against.

The Special CBI Court in Alipore has received a chargesheet against 16 accused people, including the former advisor at the West Bengal Central School Service Commission, in a case involving SSC recruitment, according to a statement from the CBI.

On the basis of the commission's recommendations, the Calcutta High Court has ordered the CBI to investigate any alleged anomalies in the hiring of Group-C and D personnel as well as teachers at government-sponsored and -aided schools.

The mentioned people are accused of conspiring together to give unqualified applicants appointments to Group-C staff positions at various schools through the 3rd RLST (NT), 2016, beyond the panel's expiration, in order to gain an unfair advantage.

The money trail in the fraud is being followed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Manik Bhattacharya, a former minister of Bengal and MLA for the Trinamool Congress, as well as Partha Chatterjee, a former chairperson of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education, and his alleged close friend Arpita Mukherjee have all been detained by the ED thus far.
