Uttarakhand police is doing efforts to make girls self dependent.Uttarakhand police is sharing pictures and videos of tutorial of self defenon social media platforms escaping a headlock, hair grab, neck grab or arm grab when faced with an assault by molesters or miscreants. This is part of the department's "Gaura Shakti" initiative.

Talking to TOI, Ashok Kumar, additional director general of police (ADG) law and order, said, “We have decided to train women in self-defence techniques and make them confident to deal with any kind of harassment.”

During the month long classes, which will be free of cost, the participants will hone skills to fight acid attacks, chain snatching, eve-teasing, harassment, domestic violence and sexual assaults.

As per information from an official initiative will later be extended to other districts as well, especially those which have reported high crime rates against women.

According to the police, so far this year, in the entire Kumaon range, more than one lakh women have learned many self-defense tricks including punching and twisting the neck.
