Assam has been devastated by the first wave of floods this year, and three persons, including a lady, have died in landslide accidents in Haflong region in Dima Hasao district, according to the state's disaster management office.

In the last several days, Assam, along with neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya, has had continuous rain, causing the water levels of various rivers to progressively rise, with the water in the Kopili river flowing above the danger level mark.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, floods have affected 24,681 people in 94 villages across six districts: Cachar, Dhemaji, Hojai, Karbi Anglong West, Nagaon, and Kamrup (Metro). In the afflicted districts, floodwaters have submerged 1732.72 hectares of crops.

On Saturday, heavy rains caused landslides in 12 communities in the Dima Hasao district.

In the Cachar district alone, about 21,000 individuals have been affected. On Saturday, 2,150 individuals were rescued from the district.

Floods have damaged multiple roads, bridges, and irrigation canals in the Hojai, Lakhimpur, and Nagaon districts.
