India Bags Gold at Thomas Cup, “The Indian badminton team has scripted history!” tweets PM Modi

The Union Minister of Youth and Sports, Anurag Thakur, lauded the men's badminton team for their thumping victory and announced a Rs 1 crore cash prize for them

India’s Badminton team bagged their maiden gold medal at the Thomas Cup title, adding one more feather to the nation’s hat. Led by Lakshya Sen’s incredible victory against Anthony Ginting, India won against Indonesia with 3-0 scores and secured a victory in three straight games against players who stood much higher than them in the world badminton rankings.



Indian team secured the win in both singles and men’s doubles games. Lakshya Sen and the doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty showed their prowess and won their respective matches. 



Soon after India marked its maiden victory in the Thomas cup, praises and congratulations started to pour in for the team across the country.  



Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his joy over India’s success in the Thomas cup. Congratulating the Indian badminton team, PM Modi tweeted, “The Indian badminton team has scripted history! The entire nation is elated by India winning the Thomas Cup! Congratulations to our accomplished team and best wishes to them for their future endeavors. This win will motivate so many upcoming sportspersons”.
