The Canadian Museum Agha Khan, after getting engulfed in controversy over depicting Hindu gods inappropriately, issued a statement saying that the museum regrets hurting the sentiments of Hindus unintentionally.

The controversy was propelled when the Canadian filmmaker Leena Manimekalai shared a poster of a documentary film “Kaali” in which the Hindu God was shown inappropriately. The Museum has stated that the documentary was exhibited under the project “under the Tent” to augment “the intercultural understanding and dialogue through the arts".

“Toronto Metropolitan University’s project presentation was hosted at the Aga Khan Museum in the context of the Museum’s mission to foster intercultural understanding and dialogue through the arts. Respect for diverse religious expressions and faith communities forms an integral part of that mission,” the statement reads

“The Museum deeply regrets that one of the 18 short videos from ‘Under the Tent’ and its accompanying social media post have inadvertently offended members of the Hindu and other faith communities,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Indian High Commission has asked the Canadian authorities to remove the controversial depiction of the Hindu gods exhibited at the Aga Khan Museum, Toronto.
