Mahatama Gandhi’s statue defaced in Kerala’s Kannur

The incident took place after a clash between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) and Congress erupted on Monday

A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was found defaced in Kannur district’s Kerela on Monday. The miscreants had beheaded the statue of the father of the nation which was placed in the Payyanur Congress office. 


The incident took place after a clash between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) and Congress erupted on Monday.


 A clash between the two parties erupted a group of more than 30 Communist Party workers and local leaders assailed the Payyannur Congress block office on Monday evening. The incident took place at around 08:00 PM Monday. The attackers destroyed the furniture of the office and also damaged the shelves where official records were kept. 


Mahatma Gandhi's statue which was in front of the office was also vandalized during the clashes. 


The incident took place after CPM MLA TI Madhusoodanan led a protest in Payyannur town alleging that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was attacked on a plane.
