The murder of Sudhir Suri, a leader for the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena party, has drawn attention to Pakistan and its spy agency ISI. A day earlier, outside the Gopal Mandir in Amritsar, Suri was fatally shot in broad daylight. On Saturday, Republic TV obtained a video of pro-Khalistan leader Gopal Singh Chawla, who is allegedly intimately connected to the ISI. He can be seen on the video both celebrating the murder and threatening to harm particular residents of Punjab.

Commenting on this, Major General (retired) SP Sinha remarked, "It is quite surprising that Pakistan which should be worried about the state of affairs within, the type of civil war situation which is emerging because of the Imran factor, Pakistan Army and ISI are busy in fomenting problem in Punjab. As PM Modi said 6-7 days ago in a meeting that there is a conspiracy against India, I am confident that this conspiracy has acquired a lot of momentum since 2014. And therefore Punjab being a border state, is a very important area for ISI to foment trouble.

Following the assassination of self-styled and controversial Hindu leader Sudhir Suri in this location in broad daylight, tension erupted in the holy city, particularly in regions close to Gopal Mandir in the Kashmir Avenue neighbourhood on the Majitha road.

The incident happened when Suri and his supporters were protesting against alleged disrespect of Hindu deity posters and statues that were allegedly put on the roadside outside Gopal Mandir on the Majitha road.

A Sikh youth named Sandeep Singh, also known as Sunny, shot at Suri during the protest, gravely injuring him. The man died from his wounds after being taken to the hospital in a hurry. Following the event, Suri's fans went on the rampage and wrecked nearby shops and a parked cars.

Shop owners later took down their shutters on the bustling street. There was a large police presence on the scene. The cops barricaded the area and limited how the ordinary citizen could walk around.

Several Hindu organisations called for a Punjab bandh on Saturday. School managements in the city posted messages about holidays due to the Bandh call on their social media pages.

In a statement, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that the situation in Amritsar was under control and that nobody would be permitted to disturb the peace of Punjab. He declared that they were devoted to keeping the state peaceful and harmonious. He also urged people not to ruin the peace by sharing untrue information on social media.
