Ransomware has caused SpiceJet flights to be delayed

SpiceJet systems were targeted by a ransomware attack last night, which delayed and halted morning flight departures on Wednesday, according to the budget carrier

After being stranded at airports around the country, many travellers resorted to Twitter to vent their frustrations.

“Flights are not functioning as usual! Since 6 a.m., the Delhi-Dharamshala flight has been stuck on the runway! I’m waiting with a sick child, which makes it even more tough. There is no information on when the flight will depart or whether it will depart at all!” Prajakta Tanksale is a Twitter user who writes on the network.

Another Twitter user stuck at the airport, Yogesh Vaishnav, says: “In the last six hours, SG 1008 hasn’t moved an inch. We have boarded the same carrier twice today. The flight attendants said they were waiting for a ‘permission letter’ both times. Passengers are becoming increasingly upset. Please act quickly.”

Meanwhile, the low-cost carrier claimed that the matter had been “corrected.” “Our IT staff has contained and resolved the issue, and flights are currently operating regularly,” the firm adds.

SpiceJet announced on Wednesday that it has signed and completed the settlement and consent conditions in the pending dispute with Credit Suisse AG.

The Ajay Singh-led airline is the country’s largest regional player, operating 63 daily flights under the UDAN or Regional Connectivity Scheme. SpiceXpress is the brand name for the airline’s dedicated air freight service.
