SpiceJet Delhi-bound plane catches fire, makes emergency landing in Patna

Passengers, after safely being evacuated, blamed SpiceJet for the incident and said that the incident was a result of the negligence of the airlines

In a shocking incident, SpiceJet aircraft had to make an emergency landing in Patna after the plane caught fire. The plane was heading for Delhi but due to the fire, it had to return to Patna airport. However, all the passengers on board were safe.


Shedding light on the incident, Patna District Magistrate, Chandrashekhar Singh said, "Flames were seen on the left-wing of the aircraft. It landed immediately. Two blades were bent. People of Phulwari Sharif saw the flames and alerted the airport authorities."


Immediately after the emergency landing, police and airport personnel rushed to the plane and ensured that all the passengers were safe.


The reason for the fire is reportedly said to be a technical malfunction and the engineering teams have already initiated a further probe into the incident. Airport authorities said that the aircraft carrying 185 passengers was Boeing 727. 


Commenting on the incident, Spicejet’s spokesperson said, “As a precautionary measure and as per SOP, the Captain shut down the affected engine and decided to return to Patna. The aircraft landed safely in Patna and passengers were safely deboarded.”
