About the Sunday LPG cylinder explosion at the Kottai Eswaran Temple in the vicinity of the Ukkadam region, five people have been held by the Coimbatore police. During the explosion, a 25-year-old guy died. According to reports, the police identified the perpetrators as Mohammad Thalka (25), Mohammad Asarudheen (25) of Ukkadam, Mohammad Riyaz (27), Feroz Ismail (27) and Mohammad Navaz Ismail (27) of GM Nagar.

Even though CCTV evidence revealed a group of guys removing a gunny bag from the home of Jemisha Mubeen, the young man who was murdered in the explosion, the police ramped up their investigation into the event on Monday. On Sunday, C Sylendra Babu, the state's director general of police, announced that explosive materials, including potassium nitrate, a component of homemade explosives, had been found in Mubeen's home. According to a person with knowledge of the inquiry, a piece of paper with the names of five well-known Coimbatore locations—the police commissioner, the collectorate, Victoria Hall, Coimbatore railway station, and Race Course—was found during the search of Mubin's home.

One of the five people detained in this case, Ismail, was expelled from the UAE in 2020 upon India's request. According to the police, all of the individuals detained have been charged with criminal conspiracy under section 120(B) of the IPC, fostering hostility between groups under section 153A of the IPC, and violating sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA.
