A Revanth Reddy, head of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), stated on Sunday that the Indian National Congress party would award world boxing gold winner Nikhat Zareen a gift of five lakh rupees
The gift was “a mark of appreciation for her commendable achievement,” the Malkajgiri MP said in a tweet.
Revanth Reddy said, “Her journey from Nizamabad to Istanbul would inspire many.”
He further requested that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) honour the boxer in the same way that he did for badminton champions PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, as well as tennis champion Sania Mirza.
Nikhat Zareen, a native of the state’s Nizamabad region, won gold at the prestigious World Women Boxing Championships on Thursday.
On Thursday, KCR expressed his satisfaction at Nikhat’s achievement and praised her for flying the Indian flag high on the international sporting stage. Nikhat becoming the boxing world champion with the support of the state government, he said, was a happy occasion.
