The Northeast's law and order situation has greatly improved, according to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, since the Modi administration brought the insurgency there under control.

“During our reign, the insurgency has been brought under control and the law-and-order situation in the region has improved significantly”, he said.

Singh made this statement after officially opening "The Conclave 2022," a two-day interactive event organised by the Guwahati-based Assamese channel "Pratidin Time" and the well-known Assamese daily "Asomiya Pratidin."

He referred to the North-East as India's limb that was neglected for a very long period following independence. He said that because the Northeast is essential to the nation's economic, social, political, and strategic growth, it has been one of the government's primary emphasis areas from its inception, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

“There was a time when India only exported defence equipment worth Rs 1,900 crore. The figure today has crossed Rs 13,000 crore. We have set a target of Rs 1.75 lakh crore of defence production by 2025, including Rs 35,000 crore worth of exports. We are well on course to achieve the target," he said.

He was grateful that the government's actions over the past few years had resulted in a significant increase in defence exports.
