Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri attended the grand finale of the International Shimla Summer Festival 2026, marking the conclusion of the five-day cultural extravaganza held at the iconic Ridge in Shimla. The festival, one of the state's most celebrated annual events, showcased Himachal Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage through folk performances, music, dance, food festivals, exhibitions, and various competitions.
The Shimla Summer Festival 2026 was held from June 8 to June 12 after being rescheduled due to Panchayati Raj elections and administrative commitments. The event attracted thousands of tourists and local residents, reinforcing Shimla's position as one of India's premier summer tourism destinations.
During the closing ceremony, Agnihotri praised the efforts of the district administration, artists, and organizers for successfully conducting the festival. He highlighted the importance of preserving Himachal Pradesh's cultural traditions while promoting tourism and local artisans. The Deputy Chief Minister also interacted with participants and appreciated the enthusiasm shown by performers from different parts of the state.
The festival featured performances by renowned artists and folk groups, alongside attractions such as Himachali food stalls, handicraft exhibitions, painting and photography competitions, fashion shows, and cultural evenings. Traditional Himachali Nati dance performances remained one of the major crowd-pullers throughout the event.
This year's festival also included awareness campaigns on road safety and social issues, reflecting the government's efforts to combine entertainment with public outreach. Various departments participated in exhibitions highlighting development initiatives and welfare schemes.
The Summer Festival has been a key cultural event in Shimla since its inception in 1960 and continues to serve as a platform for promoting local art, music, handicrafts, and tourism. Officials said the successful conclusion of the 2026 edition is expected to provide a significant boost to the region's tourism economy during the peak summer season.
