PUNJAB REGISTERS 7th CONSECUTIVE WIN IN NATIONAL GATKA CHAMPIONSHIP HELD IN ASSAM

7th National Gatka Champioship ( A form of martial arts) held in Guwahati ,Assam at Nabin Chandra bardoloi indoor stadium on Friday.

7th National Gatka Champioship ( A form of martial arts) held in Guwahati ,Assam at Nabin Chandra bardoloi indoor stadium on Friday. Around 1200 players from 28 States participated in the meet.


Team's for upcoming 37th National games scheduled in Goa will be selected from this championship.


The governor at the function said that Gatka is a traditional martial art of Sikhs which is used as self defence and sports.


The martial art Gatka associated with Sikh and named after Sri Guru Hargobind sahib was carried out by 10th Guru of Sikhs, Sri guru gobind Singh maharaj in 17th century.


Also when Gatka championship held at Chandigarh  Balkar Singh said that he is always present in the service of efforts to connect the coming generations with the  heritage sport.  He appreciated the efforts made by the Gatka Federation of India and the Punjab Gatka Association to make Gatka an international sport and encouraged children to join Gatka.
