In their T20 World Cup Group 1 match on Tuesday at the Gabba in Brisbane, Sri Lanka prevailed by six wickets thanks to Dhananjay de Silva's unbeaten 66 and a three-wicket haul from Wanindu Hasaranga.

Afghanistan, who chose to bowl first, got off to a decent start before Rahman Ullah Gurbaz and Usman Ghani were both bowled out by Lahiru Kumara and Hasaranga, respectively.

In addition to them, de Silva and Kasun Rajitha each took one wicket as Afghanistan was bowled out for 144/8. After that, Mujeeb Ur Rehman gave Afghanistan a head starts by dismissing Pathum Nissanka for 10 runs. Later, Kusal Mendis was also bowled by Rashid Khan. De Silva, however, played a key role in Sri Lanka's innings as they won the match with nine balls remaining.

After deciding to bat first, Afghanistan got off to a strong start thanks to openers Rahman Ullah Gurbaz and Usman Ghani, who at the end of the powerplay had scored 42 runs. However, they lost steam after that as all three of their top hitters lost their wickets in the next six overs.

In the 1930s, they were only allowed to score one run, which put them at 144/8.

As they pursued that, spinner Mujeeb Ur Rehman quickly and cheaply bowled opener Pathum Nissanka out for just 10 runs. However, Sri Lanka was able to complete the task in 18.3 overs because to Dhananjay de Silva's outstanding undefeated score of 66 off 42 balls.

Afghanistan, on the other side, had a bad tournament ending and was eliminated.
