At Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), an ongoing Group 1, Super 12 match between England and Australia for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 has been called off without a ball being thrown.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground's Group 1 matches on Friday have both been postponed. The toss had previously had to be postponed due to the weather. Due to the match's abandonment, Australia and England will each receive one point.

Afghanistan and Ireland's Friday Group 1, Super 12 match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was formally called off without a ball being thrown. Just after 4:30 p.m. (local time), the game was finally called off, and Afghanistan and Ireland each earned one point to maintain their chances of making it to the semifinals.

Australia, the hosts and defending champions, were trounced in their opening group game, but they are now on a high after Marcus Stoinis inspired his team to victory over Sri Lanka last time out with a brutal hitting display.

However, after a strong start to the tournament, England followed it up with a lacklustre effort against Ireland, which led to a loss on the DLS Method. As a result, Jos Buttler and his team now need a strong run of victories to avoid exiting the World Cup at the Super 12 stage.

England occupies the fourth position in the table due to a higher net run rate, while Australia holds the bottom position due to a lower net run rate.
