T20 WORLD CUP: INDIA ADVANCES TO THE SEMI-FINALS, AS SOUTH AFRICA ELIMINATED FOLLOWING A DEFEAT TO THE NETHERLANDS

On Sunday, India advanced to the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinals after the Netherlands defeated South Africa by 13 runs at the Adelaide Oval.

India did not have to wait until their last Super 12 encounter to qualify for the semi-finals, as they advanced to the last four when South Africa was stunned by the Netherlands in Adelaide on Sunday, November 6.

The Dutch victory kept South Africa on five points after five matches in Group 2 of the Super 12s, ensuring that it will lose out on a semi-final position. India, with six points, advanced automatically to the last four ahead of its last group game against Zimbabwe later in the day in Melbourne.

Few anticipated South Africa to lose, especially after defeating India in the Super 12 match last Sunday. However, they were thrashed by Pakistan, who defeated the Proteas to keep their tournament hopes alive.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, is still in the competition after victories against Zimbabwe and the Netherlands. In a rain-affected encounter in Adelaide last week, Shakib Al Hasan's players put up a brave effort against India, giving Rohit Sharma's side a huge fright.

Meanwhile, if India defeats Zimbabwe, it would finish first in Group 2 with eight points. It will next meet England in the second semi-final on Thursday at the Adelaide Oval. If the Men in Blue falter in the match, they might finish second and face New Zealand in the first semi-final on Wednesday in Sydney.
