A 8-member SIT is formed by the Kolkata Police to investigate a security breach at Mamata Banerjee’s home

To investigate the breach, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was established by Kolkata Police on Tuesday, two days after a man was discovered trying to enter West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s home in Kalighat

According to reports, the police have constituted an 8-member SIT to investigate the security breach at Banerjee’s residence.

Earlier on July 3, a trespasser stayed overnight at the residence of West Bengal CM hoodwinking the security personnel.

When the trespasser was shown to a lower court in Kolkata yesterday, the police revealed his identity, and the judge ordered that he remain in police detention until July 11. Hafizul Mollah, a native of Hasnabad in the district of North 24 Parganas, has been identified as the individual who was detained.

According to reports, the man admitted to the police that he had approached the building believing it to be the Kolkata Police headquarters. He was unable to explain why he had to travel to the police headquarters in the middle of the night, though.

The incident triggered a security scare and questions were raised about how the man went past the Z-Plus security cover that Banerjee gets and entered her private residence premises located in the ‘high secure’ neighbourhood to spend a night there without anyone noticing him.

The CM’s home and the surrounding area are now more secure as a result of swift police action.
