With the advent of modern technologies, the preservation of food has become an easy nut to crack. Several chemicals and equipment are devised to serve the ‘preservation’ purposes. But recently, a video has surfaced on the internet that sheds light on ways to preserve the food without resorting to electrical equipment or chemical preservatives.

A video that emerged from Afghanistan shows an ancient method of preserving and conserving the freshness of grapes.

The video was posted by @archaeohistories on Instagram. Soon it received a thumping response from the netizens and garnered 2.3 million views, 96.3 thousand likes, and 18.8 retweets.

The video shows an age-old method known as ‘Kangina’ used in Afghanistan for preserving grapes. Rather than using a harmful preservative, the method involves the use of airtight mud-straw containers to retain the freshness of grapes. The fruit is stored inside these containers and whenever grapes are required these containers are cracked open. Surprisingly this method can preserve grapes for as long as six months.

After the video was posted, enormous response poured in from Twitter. Netizens were surprised to know that grapes shown on the video were encased in mud-straw containers six months ago and still look so fresh and juicy.
