Amid the major clash with US President Donald Trump, billionaire Elon Musk floated a poll on forming a new political party, a move that left Republicans scrambling to comprehend the situation as it quickly spiralled beyond expectations. This move sparked speculation about Musk’s political ambitions.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk sparked political debate by posting a poll on social media platform X, asking: “Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?” More than 4 million people took part, and 81% voted 'Yes'. The poll came shortly after Musk’s public showdown with former US President Donald Trump.
Within hours, the post gained huge traction. A total of 4,143,244 people participated, with 81% voting "Yes" and only 19% voting "No", signalling strong public interest in an alternative to the traditional two-party system.
X users responded to those posts with mixed reactions. One of them said, “Yes, 100%! Absolutely. We also need ranked choice so that people aren't afraid of helping the party they hate the most.” Another said, “June 5th, 2025 -- Start of the Second American Revolution!”
“Elon we love you and I get that you need to be considered a moderate again after the political impact on your companies but you’re gonna lose credibility (both of you) if you keep doing this dance in public. Bromance is over, please shake hands and move on from politics. MEGA,” one wrote, while another said, “As much I dislike the two-party dominance, I don’t think we can solve this with a new party. The underlying issues run deeper than politics. Maybe a new party could represent that a more fundamental shift, but we need to go deeper.”
President Donald Trump’s key tax-and-spending legislation, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” narrowly cleared the House with a 215-214 vote in a late-night session. Tech mogul Elon Musk, who had recently stepped down from Trump’s White House task force, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), strongly criticized the bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination” and urging lawmakers to block it. After its passage, Musk mockingly renamed it the “Big Ugly Bill.”
The clash over the bill became the flashpoint that triggered the growing feud between Trump and Musk.
