Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor of Bangladesh, is considering resigning because he is having trouble gaining the backing of political parties to establish a compromise, according to National Citizen Party leader Nahid Islam.

Islam stated in an interview with BBC Bangla: "Since this morning, we have been informed about Sir Yunus's resignation. I so proceeded to speak with Sir about that matter. He stated that he is considering it. He believes that he is unable to work because of the circumstances.

According to a source who spoke to AFP, Yunus has warned his Cabinet that he will resign if political parties do not fully support him. A day after thousands of members of the influential Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) gathered in Dhaka for the first time to stage massive demonstrations against the interim administration, he threatened to resign.

The army of Bangladesh and the interim administration have been at odds, and many people blame Yunus for not doing enough to improve the nation following Sheikh Hasina's overthrow last year.

Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has criticized the interim government for keeping the military out of crucial decision-making processes, saying that many decisions are being made without sufficient consultation, according to a News18 report.

Along with highlighting the pressing need for inclusive elections, he questioned the legitimacy of an unelected interim government's ability to interact with powerful outside parties and make important decisions without a popular mandate.
