It will not be possible for Hasina to give a speech through the Awami League's Facebook page. However, the Awami League has not been banned as a party yet.

The Mohammad Yunus government has banned all activities of the Awami League in Bangladesh. Legal Advisor Asif Nazrul announced the government's decision in Dhaka.

According to the government announcement, the party will not be able to hold any programs on Bangladeshi soil until the Awami League trial is over. Cyberspace is also covered by this restriction. As a result, it will not be possible for Sheikh Hasina to give a speech through the Awami League's Facebook page. However, the Awami League has not been banned as a party yet.

The Mohammad Yunus government may take a tough decision on the Awami League in the advisory council meeting on Saturday, The Wall reported this afternoon. The advisory council meeting of the interim government was called on Saturday night. The movement demanding the Awami League be banned had started since Thursday night. On Friday, the interim government informed that the demand was under the government's consideration and a decision would be taken soon.

Many parties joined the movement led by the newly formed party, the National Citizen Party. On Friday night, it was announced that the Dhaka rally would continue until the Awami League was banned.

On Saturday night, the Yunus government took two decisions in the advisory council meeting. One. The country's International Crimes Tribunal will be given legal recognition for banning political parties by increasing its powers. The tribunal is currently trying Sheikh Hasina and other Awami League leaders on charges of being involved in crimes against humanity. Under the new law, the tribunal will be able to ban the Awami League. In fact, that legal path was opened in the advisory council meeting on Saturday.

The second decision is that the party will not be able to hold any political programs until the trial of the Awami League leaders is over. Their political activities have been banned indefinitely.

The Awami League leadership has not yet officially reacted to the Yunus government's decision. However, the leaders of the party say domestically that the Yunus government was not allowing the Awami League to hold any program in Bangladesh without government ban. Now, that work will be done by issuing an order.

Sheikh Hasina's party leaders further said that the party founded by Mujibur Rahman has been banned several times in the past. Each time, the party has turned around and increased in popularity. This time too, realizing that its popularity is increasing, the government has taken the path of banning it. Legal Advisor Asif Nazrul said that the activities of the Awami League are against the sovereignty of Bangladesh. They are risky for the overall law and order situation. Therefore, the ban was imposed.

A statement from the Bangladesh government said that a special meeting of the Advisory Council was held on May 10, 2025. The meeting approved amendments to the International Crimes Tribunal Act. According to the amendments, the International Crimes Tribunal will be able to punish any political party, its affiliates or support groups.

In the meeting of the Advisory Council, it was decided to ban all activities of the Awami League, including cyberspace, under the Anti-Terrorism Act in order to protect the security and sovereignty of the country, the safety of the leaders and activists of the July Movement, and the protection of the plaintiffs and witnesses of the International Crimes Tribunal until the trial of the Bangladesh Awami League and its leaders is completed.

In addition, the meeting of the Advisory Council also decided to finalize and publish the July Declaration within the next 30 working days.
