Ahead of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken a unique initiative  appointing 14-year-old cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi as the “Future Voter Icon.” The move aims to inspire young Indians to understand the importance of voting and to take active part in strengthening democracy.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, despite his young age, has already made a name for himself in the cricketing world. Known for his powerful batting and calm temperament, Vaibhav has impressed coaches and cricket fans alike. Now, this young sports talent is stepping onto a new field  not as a batsman, but as a symbol of democratic awareness.

The Bihar Assembly polls will be conducted in two phases  the first on November 6 and the second on November 11. Ahead of the polls, the Election Commission and the Press Information Bureau (PIB) released a special public awareness video featuring Vaibhav.

In the video, the young cricketer delivers a heartfelt message: “Namaskar, I am Vaibhav Suryavanshi. My job on the cricket field is to play well and help my team win. Your job in a democracy is to vote. So, stay aware, go out, and vote  Bihar will vote, and Bihar will choose its government.”

His simple yet powerful message has already gone viral on social media, striking a chord with young voters and inspiring widespread appreciation.

Alongside Vaibhav, the Election Commission has also named several other personalities as ‘SWEEP Icons’ (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation), including actor Chandan Ray, athlete Pankaj Jha from Saharsa, and others. Together, they are leading a statewide campaign to raise voter awareness and participation.

According to ECI officials, Vaibhav was chosen because he represents the spirit of youth and determination. His journey in cricket, marked by discipline and perseverance, reflects the same qualities the Commission hopes young voters will bring to democratic participation.

As Bihar prepares for its elections, this initiative has added a refreshing and positive dimension to the political atmosphere. While political parties are busy campaigning, a young sports icon like Vaibhav is reminding citizens that democracy is not just about politics  it’s about responsibility.

The message behind this campaign is clear and inspiring:
“Just as Vaibhav Suryavanshi strives to lead his team to victory on the cricket field, every citizen must strive to lead democracy to success
 by casting their vote.”
