Bengal Violence: West Bengal is on the boil with a tense situation unfolding after violence broke out in Murshidabad over the Waqf Amendment Act, resulting in the murder of at least three persons and injuring many more.

Around 8 units of Border Security Force, together with some 1,000 police personnel, have been posted in the district. Official from DG level to Additional SP has been deputed in the localities that were the site of violent clashes at the weekend. No unwanted incident was witnessed last night.

This follows after the Calcutta High Court intervened and directed the deployment of central forces not just in Murshidabad but also wherever else such violent attacks occur. Blaming the Mamata Banerjee government for tardy response, the High Court described the situation as "grave and volatile". It also directed the state government to file a detailed report by April 17.

West Bengal Violence: Top Points

The unrest began earlier this week and intensified on Friday and the next day as violent incidents were reported, including mob violence, arson, and police firing in many parts of the district.

Violent demonstrations were witnessed in various parts of the district, such as Samserganj, Suti, and Dhuliyan, where mobs set fire to vehicles, attacked houses, and fought with police. The police have arrested more than 130 individuals thus far in relation to the violence.

Three individuals were killed in the Friday night violence. The victims were Haragobindo Das, 65, and his son Chandan Das, 40, who were allegedly dragged from their residence and murdered in Samserganj. Another individual, Ezaz Ahmed, 25, succumbed to bullet wounds in Suti.

Some police officers were also injured in the violent confrontation.

The Calcutta High Court intervened during the violence and directed the mobilization of central forces to reinstate law and order as clashes entered their second day yesterday.

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose approved of the court's decision, saying that it was needed to reinstate peace in the state.

The BJP has asserted that Hindu men and women and young girls have begun to escape Dhuliyan by boat to seek refuge at Parlalpur village in Baishnabnagar.

West Bengal BJP chief and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar also asserted that some families from Dhuliyan had been compelled to evacuate their homes in the wake of violence.

Some families of Dhulian, Murshidabad, have been compelled to vacate their homes and find refuge in the building of Parallel High School in Malda because of the harassment by radical fundamentalist miscreants. Even during these very perilous days for Hindus, local Trinamool members are threatening to abandon the area.". Mamata Banerjee is letting the Bengalis of West Bengal see the ghastly history of partition even on the land of free India, he tweeted on X.
