Heavy rain, lightning, and hailstorms led to widespread devastation and loss of life in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. A minimum of 47 fatalities occurred during the accidents and of these Bihar suffered the greatest toll with a loss of 25 lives due to lightning and hailstorms.
As many as 18 lost their lives alone in Nalanda district while the other districts that suffered loss were Siwan, Katihar, Darbhanga, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, and Jehanabad.
In Uttar Pradesh, 22 individuals lost their lives in different rain-related accidents in 15 districts, while three people died each in Fatehpur and Azamgarh. Four lightning injuries were reported in Jharkhand too. The Indian Meteorological Department has also issued warning regarding additional thunderstorms and heavy rain in these states, while authorities declared an orange alert, instructing people to remain indoors when the weather turns ugly.
Bihar and Uttar Pradesh Chief Ministers have promised compensation to victim families and relief measures to fight against the havoc caused by the storms.
There have been few heartbreaking losses, though the rains have relieved some areas of the blistering heat, though much of India still endures heatwave conditions.
