Robert Bhadra, the spouse of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, also visited the office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) today to face questioning for a case related to money laundering. He went with his wife Priyanka Gandhi. Both were spotted coming together to the ED office in Delhi, an event that marks importance in the political world.
Robert Bhadra is also being investigated for allegedly accumulating illegal assets outside the country. He has been issued a summons by the ED to question him a number of times. This is, however, not the first time, he had previously appeared at the ED in this matter.
Priyanka Gandhi's appearance has imparted a special meaning to this episode. Standing beside her husband, she appears to have imparted some sort of political message - Congress is not going to bend to any pressure. As party leaders claim, this is some sort of psychological combat wherein the Congress perceives the utilisation of central agencies as some sort of political vendetta.
Meanwhile, there has been no word on this from the BJP or the central camp so far. However, experience in the past indicates that such incidents tend to heighten political tensions.
Robert Bhadra is being interrogated now, and the type of information that comes out could have implications for the political scene in the future.
