Days after the fatal Dwarka SUV crash claimed the life of 23-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra, the father of the accused minor, 17-year-old Akshatra Singh, has publicly expressed his grief and regret. The tragic accident occurred on February 3 near Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, when a Scorpio SUV hit Sahil’s Yamaha R15 motorcycle, killing him on the spot. The collision also left cab driver Ajit Singh injured when the vehicle struck a parked Swift Dzire. Post-mortem reports revealed that Sahil suffered a fractured skull, multiple ribs, and a broken elbow due to the impact.
Speaking to the media, the teen’s father, who owns a commercial transport business, said he was unaware that his son was driving the vehicle at the time. “My wife told me about the accident. I didn’t know my son was driving. I am regretful that this happened and can imagine the pain the victim’s family must be going through,” he said, adding that his family is deeply grief-stricken. He emphasized his full cooperation with the authorities and clarified that the vehicle involved is primarily used for business purposes.
Delhi Police have also booked the minor’s father under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, holding guardians liable when a juvenile commits a traffic offence. The teen was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to an observation home, later granted interim bail to appear for his Class 10 board examinations.
Sahil’s mother, Inna Maakan, meanwhile, expressed her anguish over losing her only child just 10 minutes from his workplace, where he held a part-time job at an insurance firm. She called for strict action against the teen, highlighting the dangers of reckless underage driving. As investigations continue, the incident has sparked wider discussions on parental responsibility, road safety, and legal accountability for minors, leaving the community mourning a young life with dreams of higher studies abroad tragically cut short.
