Union Home Secretary in video conference with Chief Secretary and DG
The Center is sending additional five companies of Central forces to stop the Waqf unrest and communal violence in Murshidabad. 300 jawans who are in charge of guarding the border in Murshidabad are already working with the state police to maintain peace. Along with this, the Center is sending additional 5 companies of forces to the state. This was announced by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan in a video conference meeting with the state Chief Secretary Manoj Pant and the state DG of Police Rajiv Kumar this evening. The Union Home Secretary also informed the two top officials of the state that the central government is concerned about the Waqf unrest in Murshidabad. The Union Home Secretary also said in the meeting that the state government should keep a close watch on the entire situation. The Union Home Secretary was briefed on the overall situation in Murshidabad and the steps taken by the state government. According to official sources, in the meeting, the State Police DG told the Union Home Secretary that the state government is keeping a close watch on the entire situation and this surveillance work is being carried out along with the Border Guard Force stationed in Murshidabad. State Police DG Rajiv Kumar also reported to the Union Home Secretary that around 150 people have already been arrested in connection with the Murshidabad Waqf unrest. Along with this, the Union Home Secretary informed the Chief Secretary of the state and the State Police DG that the Central Government is also monitoring the situation from Delhi. The Union Home Secretary also assured the state that the Center is always ready to deal with such situations and that the state will be fully supported whenever it seeks help from the Center. At the same time, he said that 300 Border Guard Force personnel from Murshidabad are involved in maintaining peace. In addition, the Center is sending 5 additional companies of troops to the state at the request of the state. The Union Home Secretary has directed the Chief Secretary and the State Police DG to keep a close watch not only in Murshidabad but also in other districts where such a turbulent situation has arisen. The meeting also informed that the Centre is ready to help other districts if required. The Union Home Secretary has told the two top officials of the state that normalcy should be restored as soon as possible. The Centre and the state will work jointly to deal with the turbulent situation.
