Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which has completed 100 years of service, functions entirely on social support without receiving any foreign or institutional funding.
Speaking at the ‘Gita Prerna Mahotsav’ in Lucknow in the presence of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Adityanath said that diplomats and foreign envoys frequently enquire about the organisation’s functioning and its financial structure. “They ask about funding… We say there is no funding pattern. No OPEC country or international church funds it. RSS stands on the strength of society and works with a spirit of service,” he said. He added that the Sangh’s work is rooted in voluntary participation, stating, “We tell them that we have worked as ‘swayamsevaks’ (volunteers).”
Adityanath said the RSS has sustained itself for a century through its connection with society and its continued emphasis on service-oriented activities. He noted that curiosity among international observers about the Sangh’s operational model has grown, given its widespread presence and influence. The event was attended by RSS members, volunteers and local residents who had gathered for the celebration of teachings associated with the Gita. Organisers said the programme aimed to highlight values of discipline, service and collective responsibility.
The chief minister’s remarks came during a segment of the event dedicated to the role of social organisations in nation-building. Officials present said the celebration also featured discourses, cultural performances and interactions with community volunteers.
The programme concluded with an appeal to strengthen community service initiatives and broaden outreach efforts across the state.
