Afghanistan Whitewash Bangladesh 3–0 in ODI Series

Bangladesh cricket team suffered a humiliating whitewash against Afghanistan in the three-match ODI series, losing all three games and ending the tour with serious questions over their batting and overall performance. In the final match, the Tigers were crushed by 200 runs, marking one of their most disappointing defeats in recent memory.

Batting first, Afghanistan displayed dominance and maturity throughout the innings. Their opener Ibrahim Jamiran led from the front with a solid 95-run knock, while Rahimullah Gurbaz and Najibullah Zardan contributed 44 and 38 runs respectively. Late cameos from Rashid Khan and Karim Janat pushed Afghanistan’s total to a commanding 293 for 9 in 50 overs. On the bowling front, Bangladesh failed to find momentum only pacer Shariful Islam managed to take two wickets, while others remained largely ineffective.

Chasing a challenging target of 294, Bangladesh’s batting lineup collapsed miserably. Openers Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das departed cheaply, and despite Saif Hassan’s 43-run resistance, the team failed to build any partnership. Most middle-order batters including Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Mahmudul Hasan Joy fell cheaply, unable to handle the Afghan bowling attack.

Afghan pacer Bilal Sami stole the show with a fiery spell, taking five wickets and dismantling the Bangladeshi batting order almost single-handedly. Bangladesh were bowled out for just 93 runs in 27.1 overs—one of their lowest totals in recent ODI history.

After the match, captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz admitted the team’s recurring mistakes and lack of learning. “We keep losing but we are not learning from our failures. Our first goal should be to bat all 50 overs, but we couldn’t even manage that. Batting has been really poor,” he said. He further added, “As a captain, I want the players to be mentally stronger. You can’t change everything overnight, but we must learn from our mistakes if we want to improve.”

The series defeat has sparked disappointment and criticism among fans and cricket analysts alike. Many believe that the Bangladesh team management must rethink their strategy, focus on rebuilding confidence, and strengthen their technical foundation before upcoming tournaments.

On the other hand, this emphatic series victory has boosted Afghanistan’s confidence, showcasing their progress and consistency on the international stage.

For Bangladesh, this whitewash serves as a wake-up call a moment for reflection, rebuilding, and rediscovering their lost rhythm in world cricket.
