NEW DELHI: Jawed Ahmed Siddiqui, the founder of Al Falah University, was remanded to Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody for 13 days by a Delhi court on Wednesday. Siddiqui was arrested on Tuesday evening in connection with a terror-linked money laundering case.
He was produced before Additional Sessions Judge Sheetal Chaudhary Pradhan at her residence shortly before midnight. The proceedings, which examined the ED's request for custody, continued until 1 am. After reviewing the case, Judge Pradhan confirmed that all necessary legal formalities under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) had been completed. The judge noted, "After carefully considering the submission made, I am of the considered view that all the compliances under Section 19 of the PMLA have been done."
Siddiqui’s arrest follows investigations into alleged financial transactions linked to terror financing. The Enforcement Directorate has been probing the case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, and Siddiqui's detention is expected to aid further investigation into the matter.
The ED's custody request has raised significant attention, as it pertains to the ongoing effort to curb the use of illicit funds linked to terrorism. Siddiqui’s detention for 13 days will allow the agency to interrogate him and explore potential links in the case.
