All ISL clubs have submitted written confirmation that they will take part in the country’s top-tier league this season. Although questions were raised over Odisha FC, the club eventually gave its consent to participate, ensuring that the ISL will once again feature 14 teams this season.
On the same day, the clubs also informed the federation about their home venues. Mohun Bagan and East Bengal have listed the Salt Lake Stadium as their home ground, while Mohammedan Sporting have named Kishore Bharati Stadium, which they had also used last season. Newly promoted ISL side Inter Kashi did not specify a home venue. Initially, it was believed they would choose the Kalyani Stadium, but the club has informed the federation that since the league will be played in a Swiss model format, they will play wherever the federation schedules their matches.
Punjab FC and Sporting Club Delhi have named the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi as their home venue. Sporting Club Delhi had competed as Hyderabad FC until last season; the team has now been renamed and will be based in Delhi.
Following this confirmation, the federation is expected to announce the format and schedule within the next couple of days. With the ISL scheduled to begin on the 14th of next month, an early release of the fixtures is likely to give teams adequate preparation time. The federation will also write to the AFC regarding slot allocations.
Last week, in the presence of Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, all 14 clubs including Mohun Bagan and East Bengal had verbally confirmed their participation for the season. However, doubts remained over Odisha FC, which has yet to begin preparations, and has seen several departures, including head coach Sergio Lobera and a number of players. In this context, all ISL clubs were given time until 12 noon on Monday to submit written confirmation of their participation and declare their home venues for the upcoming season.
