Mir Yar Baloch, a prominent Baloch nationalist and human rights activist, has issued an open letter to Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, raising alarms over growing Chinese influence in Pakistan and its potential military presence in Balochistan. The letter, released on January 1, 2026, comes amid concerns over the final phases of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
In his message, Baloch warned that unless the Baloch defence and freedom forces are strengthened, China could deploy troops in the region within months. He emphasized that any military presence without the consent of the 60 million Baloch people would threaten both Balochistan’s future and regional security, including India’s interests.
Mir Baloch praised India’s efforts in combating terrorism in the region, particularly highlighting Operation Sindoor, which targeted Pakistan-backed terror hubs following last year’s Pahalgam attack. He described these actions as a demonstration of India’s courage and commitment to regional stability.
The letter also extended New Year greetings to India’s 140 crore citizens, highlighting historical, cultural, and spiritual ties between India and Balochistan, including revered sites like the Hinglaj Mata Temple. Mir Baloch reiterated his community’s unwavering support for India in matters of peace, trade, security, and regional cooperation.
While China and Pakistan have repeatedly denied any military intentions under CPEC, India has long opposed the project, citing sovereignty concerns as it passes through Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Baloch’s letter underscores fears of escalating tensions in the region and calls for stronger international engagement with the Baloch people.
As Balochistan prepares to celebrate its first “Global Diplomatic Week” in early 2026, the move signals an assertive step by the Republic of Balochistan to engage directly with the global community, seeking recognition and support for its struggle for autonomy.
