After India’s historic Women’s World Cup victory, the entire nation erupted in celebration  and to honor that triumph, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made a landmark announcement. BCCI President Jay Shah declared a ₹51 crore cash prize for the victorious Indian women’s cricket team. The gesture represents not just financial recognition, but a deep sense of respect and appreciation for women’s cricket in India.

According to BCCI, the prize money will be distributed among the players, coaching staff, and entire support team. In his post, Jay Shah wrote, “India’s daughters have made history. Their determination and success will inspire generations to come. As a token of our pride, we are announcing a ₹51 crore reward to recognize their incredible efforts.”

Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian women’s team overcame all odds to lift the World Cup, silencing critics who didn’t see them as favorites. From Shafali Verma’s explosive batting to Renuka Singh’s sharp bowling, every player’s contribution turned into a story of teamwork, belief, and courage.

The BCCI’s announcement has been widely praised across the country. However, some experts have drawn comparisons with the prize amounts given to men’s teams in previous tournaments, suggesting that women’s cricket still deserves greater parity in financial rewards.

Even so, this ₹51 crore announcement marks a new beginning  a symbolic recognition that Indian women’s cricket now stands shoulder to shoulder with the men’s game. The players who once fought for recognition are today the pride of a billion hearts.

This announcement carries both celebration and promise  that the efforts, perseverance, and achievements of women cricketers will never again remain in the shadows.
